Fun Few Weeks

It's been a fun few weeks! Busy, but fun. But alas, I don't have any pictures of the festivities.

Last Saturday my aunts, grandma, mom and sister threw me a family shower. It was alot of fun to see some of the family that I don't get to very often. My Aunt Pia made an awesome diaper cake complete with little boxes of chocolate kisses for 'thank-yous.'

This Saturday my other sisters threw a friend/ward shower for me which was also alot of fun. I got to catch up with some friends that I haven't seen for a long time!

We went wedding dress shopping for my sister Saturday morning too. It seemed weird looking at dresses for her, it seems like we just did it for me! It's funny to see how alike all of our tastes are. I went to the rack and picked one out that I liked, and it ended up being the one that she bought.

Yesterday Chase's cousins that are living in Provo came for dinner and to hang out for a bit. We haven't seen them for a long time either, for some of us it had been more than five years!

I think we're all set for Baby to get here! Just a few little items that a quick trip to Walmart will take care of and we're there. I realized that I haven't put any pictures of Baby's Room/Chase's man cave on here yet. Hopefully I can get to that tonight.

Ducks waddle and so do I.

Valentine's Day

Chase took me to Hamilton's Saturday night for dinner. It was fun to get dressed up and go on a "formal" date with him. The salmon and chocolate torte were really yummy! Then he took me shopping to get some new earrings. He didn't trust himself to get them on his own. :)

Monday we both had to work and Chase had lots of homework so we hadn't planned anything special. But he came home with flowers anyway (pretty little white ones in a pot, no icky red roses for me! :)) and I made him his favorite alfredo.

I just love him, that's all.

Strange Dreams

Weird dreams are not uncommon for me, but I think the one last night beats them all.

It went like this...
I went into labor and somehow the dream suddenly jumped to my parent's house. My sister is downstairs with our new baby, but there isn't just one baby, there are four. One girl, two boys, and a shark baby. Yes, a baby shark. No one seemed to notice that one of our babies was a shark. We all went about life as normal, except for scrambling to buy things for four babies instead of one. The end.

According to a wacko online dream interpreter: "A Shark in a dream can represent: deception, ruthlessness or fear. Birth in a dream can represent: a new beginning, starting something new etc."

So here's my interpretation: We want four kids, hence four babies. The shark means I'm a little scared but it really won't be that scary because everyone in the dream went about life as usual.

Now I really don't give any stock to most of my dreams. Probably was just the ice cream I ate before bed. :) What weird dreams have you had?

Not a Mom Yet....

I'm not a mom yet, but I've been thinking more lately about how to raise a good family. I'm sure everyone wants to have good kids. But some seem to be more successful at raising independent, kind and respectful kids than others. (Although there are times when it doesn't matter what a parent does, the kid is just a rebellious spirit.)

After thinking about what things my parents did, and looking at others around me, I've come to the conclusion that Elder Bednar is exactly right about how to raise a good, righteous family.

So I might be completely off the mark, but here's what I hope to do in my own family from watching others and church leaders.

Consistency-Whether it be about having family night and family prayer to making sure your child makes their bed every morning, as long as everything is consistent, it will be easier for a child to know what is acceptable and what is not. I always knew that I had to be home at 5:30 no matter what or I wouldn't get dinner. We knew that Monday night was Family night, no matter what. But the thing that was interesting is that I don't ever remember being "forced" to do anything, that's just the way things worked and we could either participate or deal with the consequences.

Work- My parents taught us all how to work, granted we all grumbled and complained, but it was made clear that we were expected to work. For example I grew up knowing that I had to do chores around the house. Being a part of my family we all had to do our part. The first chore I remember doing was drying dishes on a stool at the kitchen sink with my sister when I was three. From there on out, I was always assigned a chore, I took out those horrible garbage cans everyday until I was "advanced" to a different chore. Fridays were "clean house days" where Mom would write up a list of extra chores for each one of us kids in addition to our everyday chores. After we had all finished our lists, we got to do something fun.

Discipline- I think there are ways people take this too far. But it's needed. One of my favorite movies is the old "Yours, Mine and Ours" and at the very end the judge is asking the mom how she keeps house and makes sure all her 19 kids are healthy and happy. She responds by saying, "Well it takes a great deal of love, a little discipline, and a husband who doesn't criticize." I never remember being spanked, but I did spend alot of time in the corner with my nose against the wall. One thing my parents did was always explain to us why we were in trouble, so we knew that they just weren't mad and punishing us for no reason.

Love-Of course when you're a kid you think the whole world is picking on you. But looking back now, there were just little things my parents did that showed they loved us. Mom let us pick out one treat at the grocery store every week. It was something we looked forward to and planned because we knew that we got that one treat. We always got tucked in and a kiss at night. After we got in trouble they would just hold us. If we were upset about something they would listen. Even though the words "I love you" weren't said a ton, there was always a feeling of peace at our house.

Gospel Principles- I am a firm believer of Joseph Smith's quote "I teach correct principles and let them govern themselves." It's the same way with the Plan of Salvation, we are given principles to live by but we have the choice as to whether or not we'll follow them. I've seen families where the parents are so controlling with every decision their kids make, that the kids rebel because their agency and ability to choose is taken away, then when they got married, they had a really hard time because they didn't know how to make good decisions for themselves. My parents always gave expectations but they never told us what to do.

So that's my soap box. Maybe I have no idea what I'm talking about and seriously I have no idea what it's like to be a real mom living in the real world and dealing with a 3-year old who throws tantrums and colors on the walls. I just hope that maybe we can pass on a little of what our families gave us to our kids.

Thursday Again

34 weeks today. Man I wish I knew when she was coming! Doctor says 37 weeks is full-term, which is 3 WEEKS AWAY! Or I could go over my due-date which is 6 weeks. That is a big time difference: 3 vs. 6.

Finally got to the store to get some new ice cream. It's been a long few weeks without it!

Ready for spring to be here. Although it hasn't seemed to be as cold this winter, which is nice.

I need a project to work on, preferably one that doesn't cost much money, doesn't make me go to the store to find stuff, and requires paint. Painting sounds like fun. Ideas?

Chase says Baby's room has enough pink. Personally I would like to add a small pink rug to put by the crib that would not encroach upon his "man-space" at all. :) Pink is growing on me. Pale pink, not hot pink.

Great Friends

A few weeks ago my awesome friends from high school threw me a baby shower. We had a ton of fun and it was great to get together again now that everyone is home from missions and living closer to Logan! (Except Mandy and Laura; we missed you!)

I'm Pooped

Lots of this has been going on lately.

I know I have no reason to complain because there are others out there worse off than me. But honestly I don't think I've ever felt this tired. My days are pretty lazy; go to work, come home and maybe make dinner, try to get enough energy to fold laundry or something productive, usually end up reading instead and then go to bed early.

How do those of you with other little kids handle being pregnant-tired? I'm in awe.

Picture from here.
